Paintings by Kirsten Aune/Sculpture by
Warren Arcila
Kirsten Aune grew up in
Amherst Massachusetts, and attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
She studied painting, receiving a B.F.A. in 1992. Upon graduation she began
working with textiles, creating (among other things) painted table lines, lamp shades,
children's clothes, dresses, handbags, and she has re-upholstered furniture with her
designs. She lived and worked in Santa Fe in 1993, but came to Duluth to be nearer
her family, the lake and the wonderful people living in the area. She has shown her
work in numerous exhibitions, among them Vaxjo Sweden, the Duluth Art Institute, UMD Tweed
Museum, and the Duluth Public Arts Commission "Art Windows" project.
Warren Arcila was born in
Brooklyn, New York to South American immigrants. Growing up in New York he witnessed
the display of both the accepted art of museums and the the unaccepted new art, at the
time, break dancing. At 15 his family moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts. Upon
graduation he joined the U.S. Army for a stint of almost 6 years. His appreciation
for art grew through travels to cities rich with art, such as Paris and Amsterdam.
Upon his discharge he used his G.I. bill to pay for continuing education
in the arts. For a time he left Denver, where he had been
studying, to re-immerse himself in the New York City arts scene.
After realizing he had left something behind in Denver he returned and
married a lovely young lady he had met in a photography class.
Three years ago his wife informed him of an artists cooperative in
Duluth, and they packed up their three cats, a lot of art, and some
furniture and came to Duluth. Since his move he has had a number
of shows in the Duluth area and has been invited as a guest speaker at
the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and at Bemidji State
University.
