From the Artist
Photography itself is relatively new compared to other forms of
artistic expression. Digital photography and photo manipulation via the computer is
even newer. I enjoy both the taking of the photograph as well as recreating the final
print using filter programs, or Polaroid Transfers.
I use the photograph as a basis for the reflection of modern life.
Expanding the boundaries of traditional realism by employing a mixed media, collages, and
gold leaf, as well as saturating colors to add drama, depth, and emotion. This creates a
new reality. I look to the work of Maxfield Parish as inspiration for the color and
emotion of this body of work.
My background in film, video, and theatre has helped me create pieces
with light and dimension. I have exhibited widely in the Midwest, through juried shows and
private galleries including Chicago, Des Moines, and New York City and won various awards
throughout the United States, including an entry in the 12th and 13th
Annual Encyclopedia of Living Artists.
