Hailed by The New Yorker as “the greatest in the world,” our Minnesota Orchestra stands apart for their precision, musicality and spirit. Thanks to a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Orchestra will tour to Grand Rapids for a week-long residency. COPLAND’S APPALACHIAN SPRING creates a musical landscape that evokes America at its best. Explore how Copland spun simple harmonies – including the Shaker song “Simple Gifts” – into a work of unsurpassed beauty. At once full and dignified, then suddenly sparse and simple, COPLAND’S APPALACHIAN SPRING embodies the spirit of America like no other great work. Hosts Sarah Hicks and Sam Bergman will lead the Minnesota Orchestra on a musical journey connecting the music of Copland to Stravinsky and Kodaly, culminating in a shimmering performance of Copland's beloved masterpiece.

Composers from Mozart to Ravel have employed the rich sonorities of the symphony orchestra to bring stories to life. Hear the Magic Flute, Mother Goose Suite and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade - a fairy-tale world of palace romances, exotic festivities and danger on the high seas.
