Since Justin Spencer formed Recycled Percussion in 1995, the band has been unstoppable. Their junk rock music became a national phenomenon week after week during their smash hit performances on America’s Got Talent in 2009. Playing over 4,000 shows and over 400 corporate events in over 15 countries, the group has also done guest appearances on “Carson Daly”, “The Today Show”, “China’s Got Talent” and the Latin Grammy Awards. After being featured on the cover of “USA Today” and being voted National Act of the Year a record-breaking six times, the band gained world-wide recognition.

Floyd Cramer and Chet Atkins. Two legends at their instruments, two giants in the music industry. Floyd Cramer’s unique “slip note” piano style was an essential part of countless country, pop, and rock hits in the 1950s and ‘60s and is widely regarded as the standard for country piano. Chet Atkins’ innovative thumb-and-two-finger guitar style led him to become known as one of the world’s preeminent guitar virtuosos, and many of the records he produced for RCA have become classics. Though Floyd and Chet have passed away, their Nashville Legacy lives on through Floyd’s grandson, pianist Jason Coleman, and Chet’s niece, guitarist Meagan Taylor. In this concert, Jason and Meagan bring new life to the “Nashville Sound” pioneered by their legendary forerunners by playing songs like Floyd’s “Last Date” on piano and Chet’s “Freight Train” on guitar, as well as by singing the music of Patsy Cline, the Everly Brothers and Elvis Presley, all of whose careers were impacted by Floyd and Chet.

Reif Dance Company is made up of the most dedicated and talented dancers who commit to extra rehearsal time for a place in the company, or for younger students, the Jr. Company. The Company Show brings together original, classical, contemporary, and modern dance, presenting works by professional choreographers as well as student choreography. It also features solos from our senior students who have been with us many years and are going off to college next year. This year we will have choreography by our faculty members Deirdre Murnane (Reif Dance Director), Julia Sutton, Christina Anderson, Katie E. Smith, and Da’Rius Malone from James Sewell Ballet, as well as many of the dancers themselves. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to branch out and have the opportunity to work with each other as choreographers as well as dancers. This is a skill that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives, regardless of their career choice.

Rich Mattson is a musician/songwriter and producer/engineer living in Sparta, Minnesota. He began performing in 1980 at the age of 13, and took up songwriting shortly after that. Since then he has led and played with several bands, most notably the Glenrustles (1988-1999) and national touring act Ol’ Yeller (2000-2013). In 1991 he opened his own recording studio in Uptown Minneapolis, and over the years has worked with hundreds of artists. Currently he is leading a cosmic folk rock group called “Rich Mattson and the Northstars” and collaborating with his partner Germaine Gemberling. He also continues to record and produce music at his recording studio, Sparta Sound.
A most lovely songbird from the northern woods of Minnesota ~ Germaine Gemberling is a singer-songwriter born and raised in St. Paul, MN. She grew up in the midst of the indie-rock explosion that brought us the Replacements, Husker Du, Jayhawks and Soul Asylum. In 1989 at the age of 17, Germaine started her 1st Band. She fronted the all-girl punk band SMUT, who signed to Spanish Fly/Twin-Tone Records in 1992. A few years later…Germaine left the Twin Cities for the peace, quiet and beauty of northern Minnesota. Since the move, she began writing songs on acoustic guitar and formed the rock group “Darn Losers” who eventually morphed into “Shotgun Daisy.” Shotgun Daisy released one album on SMA Records before eventually morphing into “Junkboat,” her latest folk-rock incarnation. When not fronting Junkboat, Germaine performs acoustically, accompanied by Rich Mattson, a guitarist/singer who also records her albums at his Sparta Sound recording studio way up north, in Minnesota. Germaine released & performed with Ol’ Yeller as her backing band, in support of her LP. released April 23, 2013 on Chaperone Records. Currently, she is co-writing, recording and performing with Rich Mattson & The Northstars.
