Grand Ole Opry Members, with numerous GRAMMY and DOVE awards and more, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent are some of the most reputable and elite entertainers in American music; bluegrass, traditional country and gospel music. ‘Great Orchestral Dances’ will be the first performance of the Itasca Symphony Orchestra’s 2018-2019 season.
Some of the most memorable and endearing songs from the classical repertoire are either inspired by or written for the dance. In a collaborative effort with the educational Itasca Strings Program, advanced string students will join the Itasca Orchestra in Peter Warlock’s “Capriol Suite”.
The program also includes Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Dance of the Tumblers” from “The Snow Maiden”, Ralph Vaughn William’s “English Folk Song Suite and Johannes Brahms “Hungarian Dances No 4”.
These dances are particularly fun for listeners who sometimes find orchestral music challenging to engage with – they’re lively, lyrical and will leave you with a classical ‘earworm’ you’ll be humming for weeks!
New York-based Harlem Quartet, is praised for its “panache” by The New York Times and hailed in the Cincinnati Enquirer for “bringing a new attitude to classical music, one that is fresh, bracing and intelligent.” Critic Julian Haylock, reviewing a NAXOS recording of string quartets by Walter Piston, called Harlem Quartet a “formidable ensemble whose members play highly demanding scores with infectious vitality, breezy confidence and (most importantly) affectionate warmth.” Since its public debut at Carnegie Hall in 2006, the quartet has thrilled audiences in 47 states as well as in the U.K., France, Belgium, Brazil, Panama, Canada, Venezuela, and South Africa.
Harlem Quartet members:
Ilmar Gavilán, violin, Melissa White, violin, Jaime Amador, viola, Felix Umansky, cello

Bad Bad Hats is an indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kerry Alexander (vocals, guitar, wisdom), Chris Hoge (drums, courage), and Noah Boswell (bass, power) met while attending Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minn. Kerry and Chris began writing songs together in 2010, recording a collection of demos that would later become their first EP. The addition of their friend Noah in 2012 solidified the line-up.
The indie rock trio’s songwriting quickly caught the ear of Minneapolis label Afternoon Records, whose alumni includes Yellow Ostrich, Now Now, Haley Bonar, and One for the Team, among others. Afternoon Records signed the trio and released their It Hurts EP in early 2013. Two years later, the band released their bold debut LP, Psychic Reader.
