Reif Dancers in the News!
Overview

The Reif Center Dance Program is Northern Minnesota's premiere dance training center, offering professional-grade instruction that caters to both the serious and recreational student. Our stunning facility offers the convenience of having a first-rate theatre connected to three beautiful, spacious studios equipped with sprung floors to minimize the potential for jumping related injuries. Another unique opportunity available to our students is the chance to participate in master classes presented by national touring artists that come to the Reif Center to perform!
Our daily program offers classes in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Tap styles. Maintaining the highest standards of training in all disciplines of dance is a purpose that the Reif Center takes very seriously. We're proud to employ professional, dynamic and accomplished instructors who carefully tailor each of their classes to be an ideal balance of fun, work, education and excitement.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Reif Center Dance Program is to cultivate and advance the art of dance by virtue of quality education for all levels and to extend the program throughout Northern Minnesota and to outlying rural areas with lecture demonstrations and high quality performances.

Curriculum

With the exception of Ballet, all classes meet once a week for all levels graduating in difficulty. Ballet at its lowest level meets twice a week and increases when students reach the physical and technical maturity to advance to pointe training, students begin to meet three days a week. This typically begins around twelve years of age with at least 3 years of prior ballet training. At its peak, our advanced Ballet students meet four days a week.
As students progress in their training, they are offered numerous opportunities to hone their skills with performances. In addition to a variety of formal and informal student performances, the program offers the upper level students the opportunity to audition for the Reif Dance Company, a student based pre-professional company.

The Reif Dance Company (RDC)

The Reif Dance Company

The RDC was established in 1994 to provide the most dedicated and talented students the opportunity to have an authentic experience of how a professional dancer works. The audition for the RDC happens in September and requires that students be very strong dancers all around. Strong technique in Ballet is a must, and dancers must prove to be engaging, multi-faceted artists. The commitment to being a company member is a serious one; this includes an extra class and rehearsal period on Saturdays and, on occasion, throughout the week. Members of the RDC serve as representatives of the dance program, providing motivation and incentive for all developing young artists. The RDC has its own performance each year in March and occasionally does regional touring performances for special events.

Performance Opportunities (RDC)

The Reif Center Dance Program presents three performances throughout the dance season. **Participation in the Company Show requires an audition.

The Nutcracker

Each December, students that are enrolled in our Ballet program have a chance to perform this beloved holiday classic to sold-out houses. Younger dancers usually take on the roles of Soldiers or Mice and get to dance in the famous "Battle Scene" while our older students get to perform in roles such as the timeless "Waltz of the Snowflakes!"

The Company Show/Dancing With Our Stars

This performance features the premier dancers of the Reif Dance Program, the Reif Dance Company. Happening in early March, this show highlights the versatility and talent of our advanced dancers. You will see pieces performed in a range of dancing styles, including ballet, tap, and modern. For the last three years, there has also been a Dancing With Our Stars portion to the evening, where dancers perform ballroom-style dances with local celebrities, with whom they have trained for approximately 6 weeks. *Involvement in this production requires that a dancer is a member of the Company.

Reif Spring Dance

Taking place in early June, this year-end performance features all of our students, from all styles of training offered at the Reif Dance program. This is an exciting and diverse performance featuring original choreography every year!
